Hoover Students Show Their Work

It's that time of year...

A display of an artist's work is an affirmation of their labor.  From now until the weekend of February 3, 2012 several Hoover students have work on display at one of the following venues.  You are encouraged to visit our local shows and support our young artists.

Little Art Gallery @ North Canton Public Library
Now - Feb. 5, 2012 during normal library hours
Works of over forty Hoover students on display in a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

Scholastic Art Awards @ KSU Stark
Now - Feb 2, 2012 / 8:00am - 8:30 pm M-Th and 8:00am - 6:00 pm Fridays
Work from over 300 students from a four county area are on display.  Students who are recognized with the distinction of "gold key" will have their work judged nationally in NYC later this year.  (See earlier posts w/ Hoover F-3 winners)

1995 Hoover Alum Visits

1995 Hoover graduate, Ryan Mienderding returned to the art department on November 21, to share his experiences as a Marvel Comic movie still illustrator.  He shared his experiences in the movie and film industry.  Ryan has worked on movies such as "Iron Man" and "the Avengers". He brought his portfolio of work to share as well as his great advice.

Ryan is a graduate of Notre Dame University and The Visual Arts School in California.  He was signing his work at last years Comic Con and continues to work on several upcoming features.

Thanks so much for your time Ryan.  We look forward to seeing the next movie!.

Abstract Cityscapes

Art 2 students study American Scene Painters of the 1920's.  They look to see what makes it "America's first art style". This style celebrates the expansion of America.

Art 2 - Abstract Color Block Painting

Art 2 students completed design based on a work of architecture or machine.  Color theory, rhythm, and composition were all important to this unit.

Art 1 - "Wrapped Up Celebrity"

Students in Art 1 recently studied art that makes a social statement.  They looked at several works of art by artist Kathe Kolwitz, who during World War II, created works of art showing the atrocities of war.  Students were to note how the work was never violent, but but powerful in its message.

Social statement artwork by Hoover students was to tell us their opinion on celebrities who they feel their time is 'wrapped up" in the public eye.  After learning how to create an shade ribbon, students created complex wrapping around the figure of their choice.
